Happy Thanksgiving

I'm grateful for my family, my friends, their health, my cats, and of course the chance to write a blog. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Tell me about it, Stud.

On this season’s catwalks, accessories head-to-toe were decked out with heavy-hitting hardware. Punk-inspired pyramid studs accented everything from denim and leather to canvas and lace. Marc Jacobs sent shopaholics into a frenzy with his studded flats (pictured), belts and bracelets, and every denim house sent pyramid lined pockets down the runway.

Personally, I don’t have $600 in my couch cushions screaming to be spent on a pair of flats. So I did some scrounging around and found part of an old costume, a studded leather cuff (pictured). With a needle-nose pliers (or fingernails, if you're brave) I was able to bend the cusps and gather myself a little pile of studs.
Poke those prongs through a scrap of black elastic, bend them in, sew the elastic into a circle and ta-da, you have the same headband Vera Wang designed this season (pictured). Spice up the pocket of your jeans with studs to get the look of True Religion’s denim (pictured).

If you don’t have a cheap gothic bracelet to pick apart, you can easily get one super-cheap from Hot Topic in the mall (or www.hottopic.com) for $8-$10 with plenty of studs each. They come in a bunch of colors and paint splattered versions too. Plus you’re left with a nice leather cuff
to play around with.

Get creative and have fun, stud muffins.

and how could I forget?

Halloween is just around the corner and costumes are full of inspiration!
What are you going to be?

some much needed inspiration...

It has literally been a month since I've posted, shameful isn't it? To be honest it's because I haven't seen anything outstanding from you guys in quite a while. I don't want to keep putting the same people on the blog, so step up your game! I know you've had midterms and rehearsals and practice and all that but you have to get dressed don't you? I've decided to help you by putting some pictures on this post to inspire your next outfit. Keep in mind, this is what I find inspiring so if you disagree and/or have other ideas, please share!!

if you're going to wear your sweatpants, at least do it with style and class
obsessed with neon

"Grey Gardens" (original/remake) are easily two of my favorite movies. The story is beautifully sad and in the remake, the clothes are stunning. Anyone into vintage clothing or vintage style should definitely check out these incredible film.

and last but not least is the utter whimsy of florals and soft colors. It may be getting cold outside but these patterns/colors can easily be paired with pale gray tights. Take a note from Teen Vogue's styling by pairing your feminine florals with something funky like that little military vest. Louis Vuitton's s/s 2010 collection is another perfect example of fun patterns and beautiful pastels.

So you see? Inspiration can be found anywhere and everywhere--you just have to look. I certainly hope to hear my camera clicking in the near future!

Happy Fall Break!

image via jezebel
As a going away present, here is a picture from a lovely fall-inspired photo shoot. Styled by the one and only Grace Coddington for the bible of all fashion, Vogue. And as always a lesson can be learned: brown, black, and navy CAN go together. You just have to do it correctly.

Have a gorgeous fall break!

"Dress cute wherever you go, life is too short to blend in." - Paris Hilton

Well, I'll be the first to admit that when I started my official quest for fashion on our campus I was nervous I wouldn't find much. Luckily, I was proved very wrong. Today alone I saw some amazing statement pieces, great ways to start the dreaded transition from summer to fall, and all around fashion innovation.
This first outfit I spotted today was across the room of my English Romanticism class:
Now ladies, I know you've all heard the myths that rompers (aka jumpsuits, one pieces, playsuits) are only made for the extremely tall, lanky, model build and that horizontal stripes make you look bigger than you actually are. I don't think I need to say anything else on that subject since this picture is clearly proof that neither of those are true. What is true is that you need to find what looks good on YOU. Not your favorite celebrity or your best friend but the style that contours to your specific body. Another thing you may be wary of when it comes to rompers is appearing too trendy. This is a plausible fear however when styled correctly and uniquely (also seen above) you can make this trend appropriate for you, instead of molding yourself to what you think the trend has to be.

The next outfit I spotted also took a popular trend, florals, and was made unique. While the outfit is very feminine it is juxtaposed with androgynous glasses, and a (not pictured) black and white checked back-pack. The bright colors are absolutely perfect for a beautiful day in September, when you don't want to admit that it's almost Fall. Although I loved the whole outfit's whimsicalness my absolute favorite was her neon orange sports watch:

Neon is very "in" this Fall and to some people it may sound hard to pull off, but it's actually very simple. What's great about neon is that it goes with everything, so don't be afraid! If you are a neon-veteran you may decide to pair it with other neons or colorful patterns (as seen above). However, most people aren't old hands at this bright trend and if that's the case, try pairing it with more muted tones like grays, browns, and navys to make that neon really pop!

Other pleasant surprises of the day include:

Plaid, a classic fashion staple, has always been a must-have for fall. It's warm, looks good, and can be dressed up or down.

Can't decide what to wear? Pair something simple and effortless with an exciting statement piece like this necklace.
And last, but not least, the classic jewel-tone. This outfit can easily be made Fall/Winter-friendly by adding a pair of grey tights. Jewel-tones are always fashionable! Why? Well because who doesn't like emeralds, sapphires, or rubies?

Keep dressing well, because as P-Hilt says, "life is too short to blend in" and even she can be right sometimes.

Bienvenue!!!

Hello All!
Although no one will have read this blog when it was posted, hopefully many of you will be reading it in the near future. As we begin the third week of school, everyone is starting to get more comfortable in their own skin, and their own style. I decided to start this blog because fashion is a big part of self expression and let's face it, M students have a lot of self expression. I (and other writers/contributers, email me if you want to join!!) will be taking pictures of students around campus who showcase their fashion in a special and exciting way. We'll also be writing features on how to revamp your wardrobe, great places to shop, DIYs and many other fun fashion-filled things. I can't wait to start, so dress your best and strut down academic row!
